Most people guess a brand-new kitchen — but the bones here were solid, so we didn’t start over. We kept the lower boxes and the layout, turned those lowers into deep drawers, and replaced every upper with new cabinetry to the ceiling — while keeping the counters and backsplash that were still perfect.
That’s surfaces + function — most of the change of a new kitchen, without the cost or the weeks of upheaval. It’s the middle path, and it’s where most Island kitchens land.
